When dissimilar metals are placed in a wet, acidic environment just like your mouth, a battery is created. And to make things worse, the more acidic your mouth becomes, the more powerful the battery becomes!! The use of silver/mercury fillings, gold crowns and bridges, orthodontic “braces”, or any combination of these, in the presence of saliva will create “the battery effect.” These currents are not a normal part of a healthy body, and cause the body harm.
The human brain and nervous system are actually voltage generators that produce measurable voltages in a variety of frequency ranges. This controls everything from our emotions to our motor skills, both voluntary and involuntary. The battery effect of mixed metals in the mouth can cause voltages tens to hundreds of times greater than what the brain produces, and may cause currents and electromagnetic fields that interfere with the brain’s electrical impulses. Any electrical interferences such as these have the ability to cause a myriad of complications both physically and psychologically. Such effects may be related, but not limited to ringing in the ears, blurred vision, balance issues, mood swings, irritability, and hyper-reactive sensitivities…… just to name a few. I have had a couple cases where patients no longer need to wear their glasses after having the metals removed from their teeth!!
The good news is these currents can be measured, but only if you see a biological dentist who recognizes this problem in the first place. In our office, we incorporate the use of a tooth potentiometer device into every new patient examination because if you have dissimilar metals in your mouth, you need to know if you have a battery in there!
And that’s not all. You may be wisely asking yourself, “What is the best way to remove the battery from my mouth?” The simple answer you might think is to just take them out randomly, but this can actually be harmful. The right answer lies in knowing exactly which teeth have the highest currents, and removing them in a “reverse sequential order”. This means the worst offender metal is removed first, then the second and so on, until all the battery is removed from your mouth. We also recommend contacting an acupuncturist to help re-regulate the flow of the body’s “chi” after having your metals removed, too. By doing it this way, we believe it will help the impact on your body be minimized and speed your healing process.
